Childbirth Education Class  Cost $50 per family

For expectant moms and dads. Sign up for classes anytime after your 20th week of pregnancy.

2013 Class Dates:

1 Day Saturday Classes from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. with one-hour lunch break.

All classes are held in Room 2249, 2 Webber and include a tour.  Please bring 2 pillows and a blanket and wear comfortable clothing to class.  For the Saturday Class, please bring a bag lunch or use the onsite Harper/Hutzel Cafeteria or Wendy’s Restaurant.  Registration is required, call 1-888-DMC-2500.  Payment of $50 is required to register.

Infant Care Class   Cost: $20 per family

Class is for expectant moms and dads.  This class is taught by an experienced NICU and/ or SCN Nursery Nurse every other month.

Class Dates:

1st Tuesday-every other month; 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

Multiples Class: Twins and More -    Cost $25 per family

Class is for moms and dads expectant multiple births.

CLASS DATES:  Scheduled as needed. Please call 1-888-DMC-2500 for dates. 
Registration is required.   Pay at the cashier's office.  

Class covers:

• Hospital Tour of NICU/SCN  
• Preventing Pre-term Labor
• Contacts for local, U.S. and Canadian Twins/Multiples Groups  
• Potential of NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) admission
• Potential for C-section and discussion of what is involved with a C-Section
• Positioning of Babies In utero (in the uterus/womb).

Breastfeeding Class:  Cost $15 per couple     

Taught by a Board Certified Lactation Consultant. For expectant moms and dads.  Please bring a newborn-size doll or stuffed bear and a baby blanket. 

Class Dates:   2nd Thursday of every month from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.  Room 2249, 2 Webber.

C-Section Class      Cost $25 per couple

Class is for expectant moms and dads.

• Various procedures involved during your stay 
• Hospital Tour

Sibling Class      Cost $15 per family

Parents must accompany child; Siblings ages 4-12 years are welcome.

Hospital OB Tours      NO CHARGE

We offer 3 scheduled tours every month. 

Daytime Tour – 10 AM:  1st & 3rd Wednesday of every month from Hutzel Women's Hospital Lobby. 

Evening Tour – 5:30 PM:  3rd Monday of every month from Hutzel Women's Hospital Lobby. 

All tours depart from the front lobby of Hutzel Women's Hospital. Hutzel is the hospital with the blue awning in front.  Parking is available in the parking structure for $2.50 or valet parking ($4.00).  There is metered parking on the street but there is a limit of one hour.  For any tour, please come to front lobby of Hutzel and let them know that you are there for a tour.  Plan to arrive a few minutes early and expect the tour to last around an hour or a little longer depending on the size of the group.

Call the DMC Referral Service for Harper-Hutzel Hospitals at 1-888-DMC-2500.  Class sizes are limited.  There is also an enrollment minimum for each class.  Classes not meeting the minimum enrollment are subject to cancellation.  There will be no refunds for partial classes (i.e. 2 of 4 Childbirth Classes).  You must pay for all classes at the Harper Cashier on the 1st floor of Harper Hospital. 

"Payment for all classes must be completed at least 24 hours prior to class to assure your place in the class."
Payment may be made at the Harper cashier by cash, check or credit card in person. 

You may pay by Credit Card over the phone by calling 313-745-7701 and please leave a message.  We will call you back and take the information to process your payment.

You may pay in person or mail a check payable to Hutzel Hospital-Childbirth Education to Harper/Hutzel Cashier's Office, 3990 John R, Detroit, MI 48201. 

Include your name, address and a telephone number you can be reached at and a receipt will be mailed to you.  Please also include the class and date of class that you are registering for.  You may bring one support person with you to the classes.
