Vascular Surgery
The Detroit Medical Center's vascular surgery program is known as a leader in the
evaluation and treatment of diseases of the arteries. Its vascular
surgeons have developed innovative surgical techniques including:
- one of only a few centers nationwide to use a machine known as
a Niroscope to determine how well the brain performs when its blood
supply is partially stopped to operate on arteries that "feed" the brain;
- one of the few institutions in the United States involved in
complex reconstructive vascular surgeries performed at the base of the
skull;
- the most experience with reconstructive surgery of the aortic
arch and vertebral arteries, rare operations performed only at select
locations in the United States;
- experience in micro-surgery, particularly reconstruction of the
arteries to the foot and hand.
